Market on Main — beginning of an era
DLM introduces rebranded and reenergized downtown market
The dates have changed but expect more of the same family entertainment and fun
Opting to move the event away from its traditional June start time to begin in August was a crafty decision by the DLM staff, event organizers and the City of Merced.
"The move allows us to see new and unique market vendors and it's also an opportunity to potentially have more weeks in cooler weather and to reach college students who were away during the summer break," says event organizer Tom Price. "The Market on Main is about showing Merced what Main Street has to offer and that will never change. "I'm thankful for the chance to promote
downtown through this hugely successful market."
Market on Main will be from 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday,
beginning August 4 and ending October 13. The street fair will feature live
music, local produce, artists and handmade crafts.
The city put the Thursday night market on a
one-year hiatus in 2008 to rebrand it with a renewed focus on local and
handmade goods. The event was immediately popular when it debuted in
2009 and each event grew in attendance. With the event reestablished,
the city turned it over to a proven event organizer so staff
could continue to focus on their core services.
Price has formed an organization to help organize
the event and help with the long-term vision. Members include Joey
Essig, RC Essig, Kevin Hammon, Toni Fiorenza, Scott Jason and Janna Rodriguez
